Icom / Ritron, And Others

Four Connector Types

This connector spacing is used with many models of portable radio transceiver and consists of a 3.5mm TRS plug and a 2.5mm TRS plug.

For many applications, it may matter how the cable is oriented. This is especially true if the radio is going to be worn on the belt, and the cable is to be used with a high noise headset or speaker microphone. The connector can be located on the top or the side of the radio. The orientation of the plug, and the location of controls or the antenna, determine which connector needed.

The straight connector is the most versatile choice for networking applications. The other variations are also available, and are useful if you want the cable to be routed a certain way. Routing the cable away from the antenna is always a good idea.

If the cable is on the same side as the 3.5mm plug, we call it a right angle connector. If the cable is on the same side as the smaller 2.5mm plug, then we call it a reverse right angle.

Strain Relief

Icom has added a 4th variation to this list, the reverse right angel with strain relief. This connector has strain relief screws built into either side, and provides a very secure connection when tightened. The regular plug will work in its place.

Two Versions

Selecting the REM cable becomes even more confusing as some of the listed radios require a DC blocking capacitor. As we get more feedback from the field, and test more radios, we will expand the list of confirmed radios. For now, the best solution is to buy one of each style. We offer a discounted pair of straight cables, one with, and one without the blocking capacitor.

Our cables are thought to be compatible with all radios listed at the bottom of the page, but it is not possible to test them all.

The original REM4467

The REM-4467 and REM-4468 cable has been discontinued. That model had been produced both with and without the capacitor. In order to eliminate the confusion, we no longer offer that model for sale. If you have one of these cables, you may want to check if it has the cap. This is easy to accomplish if you have an ohm meter or a continuity checker. If you measure a short from pin 4 of the RJ45 to the tip of the small plug, then you should mark the cable as a REM4447. If there is no continuity between those two points, then it has the cap, and it should be labeled REM-4457.
